TIPS FOR HEALTHY RABBIT FEET

TIPS FOR HEALTHY RABBIT FEET

REGULAR CHECKS

  • Check their feet every month for sore patches, check between the toes for grass or seeds that are lodged.

IMPROVE SURFACE CONDITIONS

  • Concrete is too hard for rabbits feet, in the wild they move about on grass and their toetails sink into the earth, this allows the entire bottom of the back feet to contact the ground thereby reducing pressure to their hock.  You need to provide your rabbit with a deep pile of hay, make sure you keep the surfaces of litter trays and hutches clean and dry, if they get their feet wet they stay wet instead of pads they have extra fur on their feet.

KEEP NAILS TRIM

  • Check the length of their nails once a month, the dew claw is normally the first to curl into the foot.  Cut nails short make sure you don’t cut the quick (the vein), if you are not sure what you are doing take to the vets to get them cut.

LEAVE FEET FURRY

  • Never cut the fur under a rabbits foot as this is their padding and protection.
