VITAL SIGNS FOR CATS

VITAL SIGNS FOR CATS

Vital Signs for Cats is also known as TPR this stands for Temperature,Pulse and Respiration, this is something I did every day at the vets its whats tells us if an animal is in pain or distressed.

To day we will look at Temperature:

Temperature:  Normal range is 100 to 102.5 Fahrenheit, fever is often the first sign of illness, even if you don’t have a thermometer their ears will normally be hotter than normal.  Trying to take a cats temperature is normally a two man task although working in the vets on a night shift it was just me so I am pretty good at doing it myself but if you have a cat like my Felix this would not be possible as he is a bit crazy, its best to have two people only holding them and keeping them calm if the cat is abit funny wrap them in a towel this will save your arms and keep them abit calmer, some cats are fine some do not like something stuck up their bum and who could blame them really.  Digital ones are the best, lubricate the tip with some petroleum jelly and gently insert it into their bum a quarter to half an inch, push it into the side as it the cat has any faeces in the canal you will be taking the temperature of that.  Hold in place until it beeps, remove and read the results.

IF YOUR CAT HAS A HIGH TEMPERATURE ALWAYS RING THE VETS FOR ADVICE

Testimonials

I find Annette’s dog walking service invaluable since having a stroke and ill health of my husband, I find it impossible to walk Lewy my black cocker spaniel the way I used to.  Thanks to Annette, Lewy now has a good walk every morning and loves going with Annette.
